The Genoray OSCAR 15 a new-generation, mobile fluoroscopy system that launched in 2018. The Genoray OSCAR 15 Mobile C-Arm X-ray product is designed to provide analog spot-film imaging and fluoroscopic image guidance for all adult and pediatric populations for orientations between patient anatomy and surgical instruments. Examples of clinical application may include cholangiography, endoscopy, urologic, orthopedic, neurologic, vascular, cardiac and critical care. As part of the new-generation mobile C-ARM’s core technology, the Genoray OSCAR 15 integrated a highly-effective flat panel detector instead of a conventional image intensifier (I.I) and a CCD camera; therefore, the DQE of the OSCAR 15 is more effective and safer than its predicate device. Also, a flat panel detector type has excellent image uniformity, no geometric distortion, no veiling glare or igniting, and has a small, thin physical size compared to the Image Intensifier type.

The Genoray OSCAR Prime is one of new Genoray OSCAR C-Arm series launched with the Genoray OSCAR 15 in 2018. The Genoray OSCAR Prime Mobile C-Arm X-ray looks very similar to the Genoray OSCAR 15 except the OSCAR Prime’s orbital rotational angle is much bigger. Similar to the OSCAR 15, the Genoray OSCAR Prime is designed to provide fluoroscopic and spot film images of the patient during diagnostic, surgical and interventional procedures. Examples of clinical application may include cholangiography, endoscopy, urology, orthopedic, vascular, and critical care. The OSCAR Prime is a very unique system compared to similar tube capacity C-Arm systems in the market because the Genoray OSCAR Prime integrated a highly effective, flat panel detector instead of a conventional image intensifier (I.I) and a CCD camera. Therefore, the DQE of the OSCAR Prime is more effective and safer than its predicate device. The Genoray OSCAR Classic is one of new Genoray OSCAR C-Arm series launched with other two OSCAR series in 2018. The Genoray OSCAR Classic is an economic version with selectable 9 inch and 12 inch image intensifier (I.I). The output capacity and clinical applications are the same as the OSCAR Prime, but its orbital rotational angle is smaller at 155 degrees, compared to 180 degrees of the OSCAR Prime. Similar to the OSCAR Prime, the Genoray OSCAR Classic is designed to provide fluoroscopic and spot film images of the patient during diagnostic, surgical and interventional procedures. Examples of clinical applications may include cholangiography, endoscopy, urology, orthopedic, vascular, and critical care. The 10.4 inch touch LCD monitor with preview function enables the operator to perform a seamless operation, which makes this system very unique and differentiates itself on the price point mobile C-Arms. An operator has no need to go back and forth between a C-Arm and a work station while taking images and doing surgical procedures because the OSCAR Classic helps the operator control the system with only the C-Arm side.

The GE OEC 9900 first launched in 2006, and continuously introduced upgrade models such as the GE OEC 9900 Elite and OEC Elite with slight facelift and user interface upgrades. Although in 2017, GE cleared 510(k) for her new CMOS Flat Detector incorporated the GE OEC Elite CFD as a premium grade C-ARM system, the GE OEC 9900 with a 1k x 1k CCD camera and a traditional image intensifier type is still importantly positioned as a key C-ARM product in the GE C-ARM line-up.
The GE OEC 9900 is popular due to its extended clinical support – GSP (General Surgical Package), ESP (Extended Surgical Package, Vascular Package with 4/8/15/30 Frames per Second (FPS), Neurovascular Package, and Cardiac Package. Most packages are not standard, but optional. Cost of package varies. The GE OEC C-ARM series has similar clinical packages, so the learning curve is shorter if a user gets used to one of the GE OEC C-ARM series.

The GE OEC 9800 first launched in 1999, and the upgraded version, the GE OEC 9800 plus, introduced in 2002. It was finally discontinued in 2006 just before the GE C ARM manufacturing facility in Utah claimed the recall by FDA in 2006. There has been no successor of the GE OEC 9800 since 2006. The GE OEC 9900 and the GE OEC 9800 are quite similar in terms of specification and clinical utilities, so GE simplified its product line-up and decided to have the OEC 9900 series with an II (Image Intensifier) type C ARM and a CMOS flat panel detector type CARM. From this perspective, in 2017, GE cleared the 510(k) for their CMOS Flat Detector, now incorporated into the GE OEC Elite CFD as a premium grade C-ARM system. The GE OEC 9900 was upgraded with a 1k x 1k CCD camera and the traditional II type is still importantly positioned as a key C-ARM product in the GE C-ARM line-up.

The GE OEC 9600 was produced a quite long time ago between 1994 and 1999. The GE OEC 9600 Mobile C-Arm X-ray products are designed to provide analog spot-film imaging and fluoroscopic image guidance for all adult and pediatric populations for orientations between patient anatomy and surgical instruments. The GE OEC 9600 is used for general surgical applications, vascular procedures (Limited due to its power and capacity), and musculoskeletal procedures to visualize, for example, implant localizations or needle positions for aspirations, injections, or biopsy. There was no successor to the GE OEC 9600 until 2013. In 2013, GE introduced the OEC Brivo with 2.0 kW capacity and limited clinical coverage, but the GE OEC 9600 supported 4.0kW and almost same clinical coverages like those of the GE OEC 9800.
Considering the lower X-ray capacity of the GE OEC 9600, it supported excessive clinical packages, which the GE OEC 9600 is not capable of supporting all packages properly with 4.0kW X-ray capacity. The clinical packages of the GE OEC 9600 are very similar to the GE OEC 9800 — GSP(General Surgical Package), ESP(Extended Surgical Package), Vascular Package with 4/8/15/30 Frames per Second(FPS), Neurovascular Package, and Cardiac Package. Most packages are not standard, but optional. The cost of each package varies. The GE OEC Brivo was introduced in 2013 and has one of the new GE fluoroscopic systems. The OEC Brivo Mobile C-Arm X-Ray is designed to provide digital spot-film imaging and fluoroscopic image guidance for all adult and pediatric populations for orientations between patient anatomy and surgical instruments. It is used for general surgical applications and musculoskeletal procedures to visualize implant localization, needle positions for aspirations, and injections/biopsy. The GE OEC Brivo is not for interventional use. The predicate system of the GE OEC Brivo was the GE OEC 9800; however the output capacity is much lower at 2.0 kW. That is why the system is not applicable for interventional procedure. The GE OEC Brivo does not support applications associated with vascular use, but does support the GE OEC 9800 applications in general surgery, orthopedics, general surgical applications and musculoskeletal procedures to visualize implant localizations, needle positions for aspirations, and injections/biopsy. The GE OEC Brivo does not include a 12″ image intensifier option as the GE OEC 9800. The 9″ version is sufficient for non-interventional use and has the same technology as the 9″ option on the OEC 9800.
