In July 2017,our applications specialist, Zoe Chester, went down to Huanchaco and Trujillo, Peru with Hope International.
Peru had been hit with the heaviest rainfall seen in decades when it rained from December 2016 to April 2017. This caused massive flooding, washing away homes, businesses and creating an aftermath of illness and devastation. Having already started a school in the area, Hope International wanted to to see what difference they could make in some of the hardest hit areas of Peru.
Originally, the group was focused on building shelter and providing necessities like food to families affected by the flooding.
Zoe asked if there was a local clinic that might need supplies or training. She found that a local pastor was in the process of opening a clinic to help the needy who could not afford healthcare and was in desperate need of donations.
KPI Healthcare, along with our amazing partners, SONO and Sony, decided to jump in and help! We donated a portable, tablet-based ultrasound system that can be used not only in the clinic, but can be taken into areas where people are not able to reach the clinic. By partnering with SONO and Sony, we were able to provide them with all of their accessories and enough supplies to last them an entire year! The most important thing to us is the lasting impact it can have and how it can be used well into the future.
We are grateful for the opportunity to be able to give the gift of ultrasound to underserved areas that do not have access to this type of medical care. Everyone deserves the chance at good health care!
In the above pictures, and in our video, you can see Zoe at the new clinic in Trujillo opened by Pastor Eduardo Azabache. She trained volunteer doctors and nurses on how to perform basic life-saving ultrasounds. While there, the machine was used to help diagnose and determine an immediate need for surgery on a patient. They were also able to determine the fetal-well being of a pregnant women and tell the woman she was having a boy!

In July 2017, KPI Healthcare teamed up with Sono, Sony and our resident applications specialist to make a difference in the hardest hit areas of Peru after the flooding. With donated ultrasound equipment, supplies and training we helped a local pastor and doctors open a much needed medical center for the surrounding community.
