The Siemens ACUSON NX3 is an affordable, multi-purpose ultrasound machine designed for Fetal, Abdominal (including liver), Pediatric, Small Parts (Small Organ), Transcranial, OB/GYN, Pelvic, Neonatal, Cardiac, Vascular (including Peripheral Vessel), Musculoskeletal, Superficial Musculoskeletal and Urology applications. The Siemens ACUSON NX3 and the Siemens ACUSON NX3 ELITE share the same system architecture. This convenient characteristic makes upgrading the capacity of a NX3 to the ELITE level very simple.

The Siemens ACUSON NX3 has an upgraded toolset like the ACUSON X300 PE series. Along with customizable soft keys, a wide 21.5″ LCD monitor, and a 10.4″ touch screen, this system has a lot of great features. There’s not limit to what the NX3 can cover in terms of applications. However, because it supports fewer transducers than the ELITE version, the depth of its exams is limited; only 6 fundamental transducers can be used with the NX3.

As with the ELITE version, the Siemens ACUSON NX3 supports syngo Auto OB Measurement, syngo Auto Follicle Measurement, and 3D/4D for Obstetrics and Gynecology. To bring the price point down, the NX3 was designed with fewer General Imaging and Cardiovascular options. This means that while it can handle these types of exams, their depth won’t be as advanced as on the ELITE version. In spite of these differences, the NX3 is still compatible with Clarify Vascular Enhancement (VE) technology, Axius Edge-Assisted Ejection Fraction (EF), and Stress Echo, which are great features to have.

With the battery-operated “QuickStart” feature, the integrated Gel Warmer, and the barcode reader options added to the mix, the NX3 becomes a very user-friendly ultrasound machine ready to enhance workflow and take productivity to the next level.

The Siemens ACUSON NX3 shares the exact same system architecture as the Siemens ACUSON NX3 Elite. This means that while the NX3 will obviously have differences, it can always be brought up to the Elite level in regards to its features. For example, the NX3 Elite has a more comprehensive selection of transducers which provides a wider range of applications including advanced General Imaging and Cardiovascular scanning. Because of its upgradable system architecture, all of those Elite features can easily be integrated into the NX3.

 

The Siemens ACUSON NX3 ELITE is not as strong in OB/GYN compared to the GE Logiq F6 and the Samsung HS40 ultrasound scanners who offer a better workflow and dedicated features in this discipline. Even if the NX3 supports Auto OB and Auto Follicles measurement options, it is not enough to compete with these brands at this price point.

 

The ACUSON series is historically known for the advantages it has provided among cardiovascular physicians notably its reliable measurement sets and knowledge-based automation functions. However, the cardiovascular features of the NX3 ELITE are still vastly superior to those of the NX3. Given the appropriate features and valid configurations, the NX3 is more fit for General Imaging and Obstetrics applications.

 

The Siemens ACUSON NX3 looks bulky and its design is a bit outdated when comparing it to the newer generation of systems from GE and Samsung. Regardless, the NX3 remains a very intuitive and user-friendly device, especially to those who are already accustomed to the ACUSON series. With dedicated application options, the ACUSON NX series is positioned at a slightly higher price point. With the next system release, we expect a new and wider selection of transducer frequencies to strengthen the fundamental image quality of core transducers.

Siemens ACUSON NX3 FAQs:

Advanced SieClear Spatial Compounding: The option uses up to 7 steering angles on the linear transducer, and 5 steering angles are available on the curved array transducers. This helps increase the contrast in resolution while improving tissue differentiation of low contrast lesions by reducing image speckle. Tissue boundaries and interfaces appear sharper and more continuous. This option supports all primary and secondary exam types.

Axius Edge-Assisted Ejection Fraction (EF): Based on the placement of a Ventricular Apex landmark and two Mitral Annuli landmarks, the feature delineates the left ventricular ED and ES endocardial borders. It also provides measurements for the left ventricular volume, ejection fraction, stroke volume, and cardiac output.

Cadence Contrast Agent Imaging: The ability to simultaneously detect both the signals returning from the contrast agent microbubbles and the signals arising from tissue, allows the user to switch between a contrast-only display to a tissue-only display. This gives an instantaneous confirmation of contrast presence and position. This provides real-time flexibility and enhanced diagnostic confidence while optimized on the CH5-2 transducer for abdominal applications.

Clarify Vascular Enhancement (VE): Utilizes the power Doppler flow of information to enhance B-mode imaging and to reduce the slice thickness artifact in 2D, while also reducing noise within the vascular structures. This also enhances the delineation of vessel walls while also giving better contrast resolution.

Dynamic TCE Technology: This post-processing method is available on all image transducers, and eliminates speckle noise and enhances border definition. The option is available to set low, medium, and high.

QuickStart: The option reduces the time required for both power-up and power-down events by allowing the system to enter a specialized standby mode. Standby mode power-down in 10 sec; complete boot-up in less than 10 sec. Standby time > 35min.

syngo Auto Folicle Measurements: The option allows users to automatically measure the size and volume of follicles in 2D, and to record up to 15 follicles.

syngo Auto OB Measurements: The algorithm provides the ability to semi auto-measure six major fetal structures required for biometric measurements: CRL, BPD, HL, HC, AC, and FL.

syngo Arterial Health Package (AHP): This is a non-invasive assessment method that evaluates cardiovascular risks, and also contains a semi-automated intima-medical thickness (IMT) measurement that calculates a Vascular Age and Framingham Risk Factors. Validated for adults 40 to 70 years of age.

syngo Auto Left Heart (Auto LH): There is no need for the landmark placement because it automatically detects the LV and LA borders of both the ED and ES. The feature provides automated measurements for left ventricular volume, ejection fraction, and volume-time curve for the cardiac cycle.

Tissue Grayscale Optimization (TGO): This product is a one-button image optimization. It automatically adjusts the image brightness to the tissue type that is being displayed and equalizes the overall image gain. It also automatically adjusts both the baseline and the scale in Doppler.
